OGC Nice a few days ago received a €25m, initial offer from Barcelona for Ivorian midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to RMC.
An offer that was immediately refused by OGC Nice, prompting the OGC Nice President Jean-Pierre Rivère to demand €50m for Seri, which has always been his intended asking price since the €40m exit agreement between Nice and Seri expired last month.
The Catalan club claimed to Nice representatives that they intended to make an improved €30m plus €10m bonuses offer for Seri, a bid that they never ended up making and any offer that Nice would have undoubtedly, carefully considered.
That is why the Seri – Barcelona situation is in suspense. Nice view Barcelona to have acted in bad faith, and President Rivère said as much to his Barcelona counterpart Bartomeu in a phone call yesterday.
Seri is broken-hearted by the situation, Barcelona is his dream, his mediocre performance vs Napoli this week proved that the off the field events surrounding him are currently too much for him to bare.
He has thus been left out of the OGC Nice squad to face Amiens tomorrow. Will Barcelona come back with an improved bid, are they trying to weaken Nice’s resolve in a nasty move? Probably. But will Nice stand for this bad faith? That is what remains to be seen.
