COLUMBIA, MD — A burglary suspect in Columbia is now the star of a three-act play. The Howard County Police Department spliced surveillance video of a man who cleaned out the clubhouse of a luxury apartment complex into three parts, or acts. The video was then set to vaudevillian music.
Act I — “The Canvass” — showed a man scoping out the Alister Columbia, an upscale apartment community. He strutted around the clubhouse, getting the lay of the land, in the 8900 block of Early April Way.
Act II — “The Workout” — takes the burglar into the fitness center, where he picks up weights and watches himself flexing in the mirror. At least one person appears to be in the studio working out, and that person was blurred in the surveillance footage. The video was time-stamped 9:39 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20.
Act III — “The Theft” — captures footage of the man taking TVs off the walls and even returning days later, on Saturday, Aug. 25, to steal a chair.
Officials released the video on Twitter on Friday, Oct. 12, entitled: “Burglary at Alister Columbia Apartments.”

For its play, the Howard County Police Department achieved recognition from another department in the region. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office gave the video a rave review, hinting that if there were an Academy Award for surveillance video, Howard County police would be a shoo-in.
And the academy award for best surveillance video goes to…. https://t.co/hpB2q0K4xK
