How I survived the pollution of Delhi and Beijing with my young family

In India they say that one of the signs that the end-times, or Kaliyuga, are approaching is that water is bought and sold for money – the most basic, life-sustaining commodity is available only to those who can afford it.

Looking at the pictures from New Delhi these last few days, the same might be said for the very air the inhabitants of that megalopolis are breathing as another great smog envelopes the city.

Those lucky enough to be able to live in a modern, sealed apartment and afford the latest air-purifying machines (the kind used in hospital intensive care units) can buy respite from the putrid atmosphere for themselves and their children.

Everyone else is left to ingest the filth into…
