THURSDAY’S NEWS UPDATE

The UFC is making a major push right now to get legislation through in New York to legalize the sport.  With Sheldon Silver no longer in power and blocking any bills getting out of the state senate, the company is cautiously optimistic and have a date booked in Madison Square Garden.  Lorenzo Fertitta announced that if the bill goes through, they have a three-year plan of holding huge events in the state, as well as regular sized events.  He promised four live events per year in New York state including major hows in Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center.
Bills have been introduced in both the Assembly and the State Senate and the Business Council in New York has endorsed both bills.
The ABC has planned a comprehensive presentation on the topic of PEDs in combat sports as part of its annual convention that takes place 7/27 through 7/29 in San Diego.  The presentation is being put together by ABC Medical Committee Chairs Dr. Sheryl Wulkan and Dr. Wayne Lee, and also scheduled to lecture is Dr. Daniel Eichner of the Sports Medicine Research & Testing Laboratory in Salt Lake City, Dr. Amy Eichner of USADA and Dr. Steven Oxler, a ringside physician for the New Jersey Athletic Control Board.
The WWE has said that the story here regarding a 5/15 and 5/16 NXT show in Philadelphia at the 2300 Arena is incorrect.  WWE did have inquiries for both dates with the building, but neither show has been decided upon.
WWE is looking for a new Vice President of Programming and Development for the WWE Network.
UFC has had some videos of guys weighing in the past few  days, so these are some of the real weights the guys are at prior to cutting.  Sergio Pettis (fighting at 125) was at 135, Anthony Pettis (fighting at 155) was at 169, Rafael dos Anjos (fighting at 155) was a 174.  Johny Hendricks (fighting at 170) was at 187.   
WWE’s annual stockholders meeting will take place on 4/23 in Stamford, CT at the Hilton Stamford Hotel at 10 a.m.
WWE stock had a good day, up 76 cents per share and closing at $17.11.
Lisa (Tara/Victoria) Varon, after first complimenting her soon to be ex-husband for taking down a man with a gun at the Squared Circle restaurant that she co-owns but is no longer running since she has moved from Chicago back to Southern California, in watching the footage of her husband taking down the alleged gun-toting robber, saw a familiar face that she didn’t know worked in the place.  This caused a series of Twitter messages last night:

“My favorite part of the footage on TMZ is finding out that the girl that was all on my husband still works at The Squared Circle.  Wow!  The Nerve!”

“To answer all your questions from the video, Mizzy MsLizz does not work for the Squared Circle.  Not as long as I own it.  Thanks for your concern.”

“I will take a backseat from The Squared Circle for awhile.  Didn’t know that the bartender that was having a fling with my husband still works for me.”

The Go Fund Me to raise money for Mark Coleman’s medical bills hit $17,290 with 518 people donating as of earlier today.  Coleman nearly had to have his leg amputated this week according to what his good friend Wes Sims told The Fight Network.

Tryouts for the next season of Ultimate Fighter have been moved to 4/27 at Palace Station in Las Vegas at 8 a.m.  Tryouts are open to 155 and 170 pound weight class fighters with have had at least three pro fights and have a better than .500 pro record, males only, ages 21-34 and have the legal ability to live and work in the U.S..  Applications HERE should be completed and brought to the tryouts.
