WWE 205 Live Results (02/20): Buddy Murphy’s 205 Live Debut

The show opens up with a recap of last week’s first round tournament matches in which Mark Andrews defeated Akira Tozawa and Drew Gulak took down Tony Nese.
Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show and preview tonight’s matches in which Jack Gallagher will take on Mustafa Ali and Buddy Murphy will make his 205 Live debut as he takes on Ariya Daivari. They also remind us that 205 Live GM Drake Maverick told Jack Gallagher to change his ring attire before his match.
Before the first match of the night starts we get a promo from Daivari saying that Murphy made such a big deal cutting down to 205 pounds, but this isn’t The Biggest Loser, it’s 205 Live, and Murphy isn’t stealing his WrestleMania moment. We also see Murphy’s final weigh-in as he made it under the limit at 200.9 lbs.

Buddy Murphy vs. Ariya Daivari (Cruiserweight Championship Tournament First Round Match): We get “Buddy Murphy” chants going as things get started. Murphy hits a hurricanrana that sends Daivari to the floor. Murphy slides out and tries to send Daivari back in the ring, but the two end up on the apron. Daivari drops Murphy on the apron and shoves him into the steel steps. Action is back in the ring as Daivari hits some big chops and sends his opponent into the corner. Murphy charges in and he gets hip tossed into the corner. Daivari goes for the pin, but only a two count. Murphy lands a couple of kicks and hits a couple of clotheslines. Murphy lands another kick that drops Daivari near the corner. Murphy heads to the top, but Daivari moves to the floor and Murphy hits a huge front flip over the top rope. Murphy gets back up, heads to the top again and lands double knees on Daivari. Murphy goes for the pin, but only a two count. Daivari catches Murphy with a spinning forearm and heads to the top rope. Daivari hits Murphy with a frog splash and goes for a pin, but only a two count. Daivari with a hammerlock lariat and goes for a pin, but only a two count. Daivari can’t believe it as McGuinness says that nobody has kicked out of that yet. Murphy recovers and hits a lightning quick pump-handle spinning slam that picks up the win for him. Winner: Buddy Murphy
We head backstage where Drake Maverick reveals the matches for the next round of the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. He says that Cedric Alexander will take on TJP, Roderick Strong faces Kalisto, Mark Andrews faces Drew Gulak, and finally Buddy Murphy will face the winner of Jack Gallagher and Mustafa Ali. TJP and Alexander come into the picture and talk some trash before TJP heads off.
Before the next match, Kalisto tells McGuinness and Joseph to let his next opponent, Roderick Strong know that speed kills.
Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado with Kalisto vs. Enhancement Talents: Dorado goes to work on one of the enhancement talents early. Metalik gets tagged in and walks the rope, then hits a nice dropkick. Metalik gets distracted momentarily and the enhancement talents gets in a little bit of offense. Dorado is tagged back in and goes to work as he hits a crossbody off the top rope and goes for a pin, but only a two count. Dorado hits a double handspring stunner that sends both opponents to the outside. Both Metalik and Dorado goes over the top rope. Metalik throws one of their opponents back in the ring. Dorado up top and hits a shooting star press off the top rope for the win. Winners: Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado

We get a promo from Gulak saying that people tell him he went too far last week, but that’s just an excuse weak people make. He says that he respects Mark Andrews, but he plans to ground him and tap him next week. Andrews answers with his own promo that features him doing a standing flip while holding the camera. He says that Gulak can’t ground him, and he’ll fly through the “No Fly Zone” en route to WrestleMania.
Before the main event of the night, we head backstage where we see Ali taping himself up. Gallagher then enters in his new gear which is a green velvet long tights into calf-high socks and simple black wrestling boots.
Mustafa Ali vs. Jack Gallagher (Final Cruiserweight Championship Tournament First Round Match): Gallagher goes to work on Ali’s shoulder and wrist early on. Ali is having trouble getting away from Gallagher as Ali gets dropped and put into a fujiwara armbar, but Ali quickly gets to the bottom rope. Some back and forth mind games are being played by both wrestlers. Multiple pin attempts from both wrestlers, none of which end in a three count.

Both get caught in the ropes as Ali hits a spinning kick that sends Gallagher to the floor. Ali tries for a baseball slide, but Gallagher pulls up the ring apron to trap Ali, and swings away on Ali. Referee starts up a ten count, but Ali is able to make it in the ring. The crowd starts a “Rusev Day” chant as Ali chops down his opponent, then hits a pop-up dropkick followed by a hurricanrana. Ali hits a facebuster as he tries to go up top, but Gallagher stops up for a moment. Ali goes up, but gets stopped. Both men up on the second rope as Gallagher yanks Ali’s arm over the top rope and then sends Ali straight into the ring post and goes for a pin, but only a two count. Gallagher continues to work the arm, but almost gets pinned in the process. Gallagher gets sent to the outside. Ali goes for a corkscrew over the top rope and Gallagher apparently moved out of the way. The referee starts with a ten count, but Ali is able to get back in at nine.
Ali keeps getting caught in arm-bars, but he is able to break out of them. Ali is on the apron now as he throws Gallagher’s face into the top turnbuckle and heads to the second rope. Gallagher locks in yet another armbar, but Ali shoves him off. Gallagher with a running dropkick that sends Ali from the second rope all the way to the barricade. Gallagher doesn’t wait and throws Ali shoulder first into the edge of barricade. The action is back in the ring as Gallagher scoop slams Ali into the corner and goes for a pin, but only a two count. Gallagher with multiple hard elbows to the side of the head and goes for a pin, but only a two count. Gallagher looks to be getting a bit frustrated. He sits Ali on the top rope and tries for a back suplex, but Ali flips and lands on his feet. Ali hits a spinning DDT then an 054 for the win. Nigel McGuinness stands and claps after that one. Winner: Mustafa Ali
After the match, Ali stands tall as he celebrates his victory to end the show. Next week it will be Cedric Alexander vs. TJP and Roderick Strong vs. Kalisto.
