After three weeks of grueling tournament action, Will Ospreay delivered on his promise to “slay the dragon” this morning in becoming the 2019 Best of the Super Juniors Champion!
Ospreay advanced from this year’s ultra-competitive B Block where he finished with an impressive 7-2 record, scoring 14 points. While this was clearly a more deadly and focussed “Aerial Assassin” than ever before, the UK star still faced a mountain of a challenge in the unbeaten “Last Dragon” of Los Ingobernables, Shingo Takagi.
While Ospreay’s record would have been enough to win him a block in any of the last five Super Juniors tournaments, his accomplishments paled in comparison to Shingo, who finished a flawless 9-9 for an unprecedented 18 points, setting a new all-time tournament record that is unlikely to be beaten any time soon.
This is Will Ospreay’s second Super Juniors victory, but his third Finals appearance in the past four years. He won the 2016 tournament as well with a Finals win over Ryusuke Taguchi, who he defeated in this year’s B Block Finals as well.

After the match, the UK sensation informed the fans that he would be moving full-time to Japan soon, and will be able to call New Japan home going forward. With this win, Ospreay will face Dragon Lee for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship on June 9th at NJPW Dominion.
