Tommaso Ciampa cut a backstage promo on the December 26 edition of NXT. The  brand’s top champion addressed the recent reunion with his former DIY tag team partner, Johnny Gargano.

Ciampa and Gargano spent the bulk of 2018 waging an incredibly vicious and highly personal war. The former best friends fought in one epic match after another, raising their level of intensity every time. Fans believed the two men would perhaps fight forever. But then Gargano did the unthinkable and turned heel.

Johnny was given credit for injuring Aleister Black, leading them to fight a feud of their own. Gone was the inspirational underdog that Johnny had always been. In his place was an underused and bitter NXT Superstar that was hellbent on proving his worth in the ring.

Gargano’s new attitude put him on Ciampa’s radar and the two men actually worked together to give Johnny the win over Black on a recent episode of NXT. Whether or not DIY will officially reunite for another tag team run is unknown. But it’s clear that Ciampa wants to see Gargano with a title.

Of course that title is not Ciampa’s NXT Championship. Instead, Ciampa wants to see Johnny as the new NXT North American champion. It could very well be that current champion Ricochet will indeed step up for a showdown with Johnny Gargano.
