A photo circulating around social media, allegedly taken from inside the Barclays Center prior to tonight’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4 special, would appear to spoil a huge singles match for the upcoming all-women’s pay-per-view event WWE Evolution, set to take place on October 28th.
The photo depicts Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss taking on WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. The iconic Canadian has not wrestled a singles match since 2006 in her retirement bout against Lita, although there were rumblings that she may face Mickie James at the big event in a throwback to their classic rivalry.
The interesting thing worth mentioning is that WWE has made it clear that every women’s title will be defended at Evolution, including the uncrowned NXT UK Women’s Championship. Miss Bliss is set to defend her title against Ronda Rousey tomorrow evening at SummerSlam, so the photo could also potentially be a spoiler that she is set to drop the gold before facing off against Stratus.
We have reached out to WWE for comment, but the company does not make a habit of commenting on rumor and speculation. For what it’s worth, the Barclays Center is heavily decked out in advertising for WWE Evolution during this weekend’s events. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
