How Much Money USA Was Offering WWE in 10-Year Deal Pitch
The latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio has provided more insight into the major WWE deal with FOX, which will see Smackdown Live air on the network beginning in October 2019.
“WWE was very close to a 10 year deal with USA at $360 million a year,” revealed Dave Meltzer. “Which is good money, and UFC was looking at 3-350 at five [years].”
Of course, FOX stepped in and offered WWE the five-year deal for Smackdown worth $205 million per year, netting WWE over $1 billion over the entire course of the deal. FOX was said to have sweetened the pot with an offer to cross-promote WWE on FOX’s other programming such as MLB and NFL, as well as auxiliary programming which could air on FSN or FS1.
