Unless WWE schedules an impromptu defense of the Universal Championship in the next three weeks, Brock Lesnar will definitely be passing CM Punk’s record for the longest WWE world title reign of the modern era, currently set at 434 days (or 435 depending on which source you ask).
Considering that the “Beast Incarnate” isn’t scheduled for next month’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view or a single episode of Raw between now and then, it seems inevitable at this point that Lesnar will become the longest reigning WWE world champion since Hulk Hogan dropped the WWF World Heavyweight title in 1988.
While these numbers really don’t mean anything, especially in today’s landscape where the top stars of the company doesn’t even need to be on television full-time or compete consistently, comparing the reigns of CM Punk and Lesnar tells a pretty compelling story. During Punk’s 434 day reign as WWE Champion he had a shocking 141 title defenses including house shows and dark matches. Lesnar as Universal Champion will tie the record in three weeks, with a grand total of 10 title defenses, four of which were at house shows.
Woods Wins SEGA Classics Tourney
WWE Superstar Xavier Woods turned out to be a surprise competitor in today’s SEGA Genesis Classics Challenge! The event was held at the Microsoft Store in New York City to promote the upcoming release of the SEGA Genesis Classics Collection, available on PS4 and XBone next Tuesday, May 29th.
Woods actually managed to work his way up the tournament ladder, playing old school gems like Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine and Altered Beast before landing in the finals. The UpUpDownDown host met Hip Hop Gamer in one final epic battle where both played Sonic 2 in a mirror mode challenge; Woods ultimately emerged victorious to win the entire thing.
