The Argentine Volleyball Federation have hired Javier Weber as new head coach of the Argentine men’s team for their next Olympic campaign that starts June 2009.

 

 

Weber will be in charge when Argentina return to the FIVB World League in 2009. The World League is the premier annual men’s Volleyball competition involving the 16 best national teams in the world competing for more than US$20 million prize money.

The 42-year-old Weber said, “At this moment I feel a great happiness, because for any coach, to be able to be in charge of his national team is a great dream. On this path we are looking towards the unity of Argentine Volleyball.”

Weber, a setter as a player who spent six seasons in club Volleyball in Italy, represented the Argentine men's team at three Olympic Games, winning the bronze medal at Seoul 1998 and appearing in the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympic tournaments. He also represented his country when Argentina hosted the 2002 FIVB World Championship. The task ahead of Weber now is for him to lead Argentina to the 2010 FIVB World Championship finals in Italy and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
