UPDATE 8 a.m. Monday: Here’s another crack pipe vending machine outside the Home Depot on Middle Country Road in Coram. This one has not yet been removed.
CORAM, NY – The discovery of a crack pipe vending machine in front of a Long Island shopping center has shocked local residents and has authorities searching for whomever is responsible for putting it there.
The vending machine, labeled with the word “PENS,” was removed from the public right-of-way in front of the Coram Commons shopping center located at 16 Middle Country Road in Coram on Sunday. Brookhaven Town officials say the town had received complaints from local residents.
For $2 in quarters, the machine dispensed a crack pipe kit. It’s unclear how long the vending machine was operating, but on Aug. 31, a person on Facebook posted a photo of the machine, which was located right behind a bus stop.
“Town Law Department investigators will take immediate action and refer all findings to the Suffolk County Police Department,” Brookhaven Town officials said in a statement announcing a press conference that will be held Monday morning.
