It was announced today that the WWE released cruiserweight Hoho Lun. Lun was originally brought into the company last year as part of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament where he represented  Hong Kong.
Lun began wrestling in 2007, being trained in China. Being a life long wrestling fan, he relocated to  Guangzhou to receive his training with hopes of eventually joining the WWE or New Japan Pro Wrestling. He eventually founded his own company and gym in Hong Kong to train other wrestlers including Fellow CWC competitor Jason Lee, and infamous cross dressing wrestler and singer Ladybeard. In 2016 he was part of the Cruiserweight Classic where he defeated Ariya Daivari in the first round but was defeated by Noam Dar in the second round. After that, he appeared sporadically for NXT including losing in the first round of the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with partner Tian Bing and a few other appearances. He was shown many times in background and locker room shots and was used on many of the NXT house shows. He was announced as part of 205 Live, but only appeared a couple of times and was not a featured member of the show’s roster.
Interestingly, the WWE has not made an official statement of his release, despite it being reported he was released many days ago. It is thought Lun’s release may be part of cost cutting measures to boost company profits, but if that were the case more than just Lun would have been released at this point, so other factors may be at play with his exit from the company.
