MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead head wrestling coach Kris Nelson has announced the addition of Jake Lords to the Dragon coaching staff starting this fall.
A native of Rexburg, Idaho, Lords was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Division II Chadron State in Nebraska, where he earned Freshman of the Year honors.
He has spent the past six years as the head wrestling coach at Madison High School in Rexburg.
”Jake Lords brings a vast knowledge of wrestling as he has served as a head wrestling coach in Idaho for the past six years and we look forward to him helping with all aspects of the Dragon wrestling program,” Nelson said. “Jake was very active with the USA Idaho Wrestling Board of Directors as a National Team Coach and Vice Chairman of the Board. I feel he will help with recruiting the Pacific Northwest wrestling region. Jake is currently working on becoming a silver certified coach with USA Wrestling. I am very happy with the work he has done in the first few weeks of school and look forward to continuing to work with him on building the wrestling program.”
While at Madison HS, Lords coached more than 35 state qualifiers, including a state champion and two state finalists. As a high school wrestler in Idaho he placed third in the state three times.

“I am honored and excited to learn from and coach alongside Coach Nelson,” Lords said. “I love his coaching philosophy as it aligns with mine. We share similar goals of developing exceptional men who happen to find success on the wrestling mat. I’m eager to help coach Nelson continue to produce academic and athletic All-Americans who are distinguished individuals off the mat. I’m thankful for the opportunity to join the Dragon family and I hope to contribute to its successes.”
