Marseille forward Bamba Dieng is close to joining Leeds United. The Senegalese international had looked set to join Lorient, but in a last-minute switch, the Premier League looks a likely destination for the player, as first reported by Foot Mercato.

La Provence then confirmed that a permanent deal has been agreed between Leeds United and Marseille valued in the region of €10m plus a percentage on the player’s future resale. Dieng prefers a loan to Lorient, however, and has yet to enter into direct talks with Leeds. The deal, one way or the other, is likely to go down to the wire. The Athletic also reported that Leeds United are discussing a deal for Dieng, after failing in approaches for Cody Gakpo and Hwang Here-Chan.

Le Provence also reported earlier report that the striker was to join Lorient from Marseille today after a summer of uncertainty over his future. The two clubs were very close to an agreement, but the fee involved is yet to filter through as part of what will be a permanent deal with OM retaining a sell-on percentage clause.

The Senegalese international had barely featured in Igor Tudor’s plans since scoring a hat-trick against Marignane-Gignac in mid-June during pre-season, not being included in match preparations for this seasons’ games at all. Instead, the striker has been relegated to training on the fringes of the group with Dutch international Kevin Strootman, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by the club.
