Manheim, Pennsylvania — The University of Missouri ended the regular season as the lone undefeated Division I team after winning this past weekend’s EAS Sports Nutrition/NWCA National Duals in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Tigers (24-0) beat previously unbeaten and No. 1 Iowa (17-1) 18-12 in a spirited final to close the season as the new No. 1 in the final regular season USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll released Tuesday.
Missouri, ranked No. 1 for the second time in program history and for the first time since 2007, garnered all 12 first-place votes. Iowa will end the regular season ranked second, followed by No. 3 Cornell (17-2) and No. 4 Minnesota (11-3). Cornell upended Minnesota in the quarterfinals and then beat rival Lehigh for third-place at the National Duals. Lehigh (14-6) jumped into the top 10 after upsetting then-No. 3 Ohio State 21-18 in the quarterfinals before falling to Missouri and Cornell to close out its season.
Ohio State (13-4) ended the season ranked fifth. Oklahoma State (12-3), Penn State (11-4), Iowa State (11-2), Lehigh and Virginia Tech (14-2) rounded out the top 10.
Several upsets caused some shakeups in the week’s final season. Unranked West Virginia beat then-No. 18 Pittsburgh, unranked Northern Iowa beat then-No. 21 Old Dominion and unranked Binghamton toppled then-No. 22 Bucknell.
N.C. State (16-6) closed the season at No. 17 after a 22-20 win against then-No. 13 Virginia.
