Not only did WWE not have the power to allow its female competitors to compete at the Greatest Royal Rumble Event but the women wrestlers are reportedly not even allowed to attend the show. The Saudi Arabian culture is that women are not able to watch any sporting/entertainment events live unless they are accompanied by a male (usually either their husband, father or brother).
Apart from the setback and limitation of WWE women not being able to appear at tonight’s Greatest Royal Rumble Event, it appears that Finn Balor’s entrance embracing all walks of life is also “clearly not going to be acceptable” as the cultural perception towards homosexuality is extremely negative.
The main reason that WWE is going ahead with this event despite it being contradicting to their overall brand message is because of financial reasons. It is a gigantic deal for ten years between the two sides in which the Saudi government is pretty much funding the entire event. The exact financials won’t be revealed until WWE releases their quarterly report for Q2 sometime in August, but as previously reported via an article released by @PWStream, the deal is approximately worth $100-$200 million.
