Rennes have today completed the signing of Ivorian left-back Souleyman Doumbia from Swiss side Grasshoppers.
The 22-year-old, who emerged from the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy before spells in Italy with Serie B clubs Bari and Vicenza, is a versatile left-sided player and has signed a contract for Julien Stéphan’s side until 2022.
Doumbia, confirmed to wear the no. 5 shirt at Roazhon Park, will provide competition to Rennes’ makeshift left-back this season, Ramy Bensebaini.
Club President Olivier Létang expressed his delight in securing Doumbia’s signature in a statement to the club website: “We are delighted to welcome Souleyman Doumbia who is a player who was tracked by many clubs in Europe…He has all the qualities for a modern team and arrives with great humility to join our team and participate to the Rennes project”.
