As reported by Max Tilliete of RMC, French forward Lucas Da Cunha has reached an agreement for a permanent transfer to Serie B team Como 1907.
With only two goals and one assist across 25 appearances for Les Aiglons last season, things were not working out too well for the 21-year-old, who is set to test out the greener grasses of Northern Italy. He will join World Cup winner and former AS Monaco man Cesc Fàbregas at Como, from whom Da Cunha will no doubt hope to learn. Como currently sit at 15th in the league.
Da Cunha’s departure may be interpreted as an attempt by OGC Nice to shake up the squad, after it was announced yesterday that they had sacked their head coach, Lucien Favre. Cutting down the squad may be part of Florent Ghisolfi’s strategy to relaunch their season. This plan may also comprise the departure of Algerian striker Andy Delort, who has been linked with Nantes in recent days. Delort had been a first-choice member of the squad until the departure of Christophe Galtier, after which his game time decreased under Favre.
Le Gym sit at 11th in the French top flight, having also progressed to the next round of the Europa Conference League after topping Group D. To succeed both domestically and in Europe, they will hope that fresh blood and new approaches can reinvigorate the team – especially after their embarrassing French cup exit to third-tier Le Puy on Saturday.
