Remi Garde becomes Aston Villa manager

Aston Villa have completed a deal to bring in Remi Garde as their next manager.

Remi Garde will be accompanied in the role of assistant manager by Réginald Ray.

The Premier League side are set to announce Garde’s appointment tomorrow. The former Lyon boss is believed by the British press to have signed a three and a half year deal. However, L’Équipe writes this morning that Garde has committed to a contract until the end of the season, with the option to extend by two seasons.

RMC reported last night that before Remi Garde accepted the job at Aston Villa, Tom Fox approached Christophe Galtier, the St Étienne manager. This was to no avail, with St Étienne co-presidents Ronald Romeyer and Bernard Caiazzo rebuffing the approach.

Remi Garde will be present at tonight’s game against Tottenham in the stands. Lyon have however blocked the arrival of Gérard Baticle and Bruno Génésio as part of Remi Garde’s Aston Villa coaching staff. Garde will have to wait until next summer if he wants to bring them in.

Kevin MacDonald will return to his position within the Aston Villa academy after tomorrow’s match against Tottenham where he will complete his role as interim boss.
