SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Augustana wrestling team announced the signing of Sherburn, Minnesota, native Payton Anderson Monday morning. Anderson is currently a senior at Martin County West High School and will enroll as a freshman at Augustana in the fall of 2020.
“We are excited to welcome Payton to the Augustana wrestling family,” head coach Jason Reitmeier said. “Payton is exactly what we look for in a student-athlete; smart, athletic and tough. Payton comes from a great wrestling program and is a great leader as well. All the coaches look forward to working with Payton next year.”
Anderson has been fantastic on the mat at Martin County West High School and as a junior, he went 45-9 en route to a section championship and a fourth-place title at state. He was named to the All-State team last season and was a team captain. As a sophomore, Anderson went 37-7 while winning the section championship. As a freshman, he went 36-7 and placed second at the state tournament.
Anderson was born on Nov. 1, 2001, in Sherburn, Minnesota, to parents Michele and Jared Anderson. He has two siblings and his hobbies include being outside, playing sports and working out. Payton plans to graduate from Martin County West in May of 2020 and plans to major in Education at Augustana.
